John Glenn was born on July 18, 1921 in Cambridge Ohio. As a child, Glenn attended the local elementary school and graduated in 1939 from a school that is now named after him. He went to college but left during his Junior year to fight in WW II.
In 1959 Glenn was selected by Nasa to program the cockpit of the space shuttle Friendship 7. On February 20,1962, Glenn captured history by becoming one of the first to orbit Earth. In 1974 Glenn ran for Senate for the Democratic Party. He ran for 10 years and then decided to try for the presidency. He was forced to drop out because his campaign was disorganized and inept. Glenn was re-elected to then senate in 1984 and stayed there untill 1998 when he volunteered to participate in a scientific space mission for Nasa. On October ...
