In the epic poem, Beowulf, there is a character that possesses the qualities of a true hero. In every aspect of the poem, Beowulf shows bravery, strength, and passion in everything he does. These qualities define a true hero.
Beowulf may seem arrogant and foolish as he talks and brags in the beginning of the poem; however, he proves that he is brave enough to live up to his extremely ambitious words. "With hand-grip only I'll grapple with Grendel; foe against foe I'll fight to the death..." (341) With Grendel being a vicious monster that is known to kill many people, Beowulf fearlessly states that he will use no weapons. He is very confident in his speech, never doubting his abilities.
