This story is told in 1st person. Sammy is the main character. He starts out as a naïve young man. During the course of the story he matures. He sticks up for himself and what he thinks is right, when he quits his job.
The A & P in this story is in a town north of Boston. It is located in the middle of town on Central Ave and is about 5 miles from the beach. This is significant because the 3 girls that come in to the store in swimsuits. It is very difficult to tell the time period of this story.
This is an informal story. It is told by a teen-aged boy and is written like a teenager is telling the story. Sammy is the person telling the story and he tells it in chronological order for the events that happened that day.
